Thumb sucking research

Paroo’s research interest is the thumb sucking habit and its effect on the teeth. She carried out a cross sectional study in Northamptonshire assessing the bites of children who sucked their fingers/thumb compared to children who never had a sucking habit. She identified key features of the bite which are much more likely to be present in thumb suckers. She has published her research widely and has presented her work nationally and internationally. Paroo also co-wrote the British Orthodontic Society patient information leaflet on thumb sucking and dummy sucking habits which is now distributed nationally.
